BMI calculator, and why it isn't enough
Calculate your body mass index and compare it with a measure that says more about your health: your waist relative to your height.
Below 0.5: the reference health guidelines use for lower risk linked to abdominal fat.
What is BMI?
Your weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters squared. The World Health Organization classifies it as: under 18.5, underweight; 18.5 to 24.9, normal; 25 to 29.9, overweight; 30 or more, obesity.
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)²Why isn't it enough?
BMI doesn't tell muscle from fat or where fat is stored. Two people with the same weight and height have the same BMI even if one has far more muscle. That's why at SIX PACK we work with body composition, not just weight.
What is the waist-to-height ratio?
Your waist divided by your height. A meta-analysis (Ashwell et al., 2012) found it better than BMI at detecting cardiometabolic risk, and guidelines such as the UK's NICE recommend keeping it below 0.5. It's a reference, not a diagnosis.
